FDA notified healthcare professionals and patients of an ongoing safety review and labeling changes for the anti-nausea drug Zofran (ondansetron, ondansetron hydrochloride and generics). Ondansetron may increase the risk of developing prolongation of the QT interval of the electrocardiogram, which can lead to an abnormal and potentially fatal heart rhythm, including Torsade de Pointes. Patients at particular risk for developing Torsade de Pointes include those with underlying heart conditions, such as congenital long QT syndrome, those who are predisposed to low levels of potassium and magnesium in the blood, and those taking other medications that lead to QT prolongation.

A seguito di ispezione, la ASL adottava un atto di diffida sul presupposto che lo studio medico fosse un ambulatorio polispecialistico, per la cui apertura sono necessarie speciali autorizzazioni mancanti nella caso concreto.

Gli scienziati, coordinati da Pico Caroni dell’Istituto Friedrich Miescher di Basilea, hanno studiato i cervelli dei topi e indagato come la struttura e l’organizzazione di questi si modifichino durante l’apprendimento.”Nel cervello adulto si formano nuove sinapsi e se ne perdono di precedenti, ma le funzioni di questa plasticità strutturale non erano chiare” spiegano i ricercatori, aggiungendo che “l’apprendimento di nuove capacità è correlato alla formazione di nuove sinapsi”.Tutto ciò potrebbe essere correlato con la codifica di nuovi ricordi ma potrebbe anche “avere un ruolo più generale nella codifica della memoria e nel processo di recupero dei ricordi”.Partendo da queste premesse gli scienziati hanno condotto le proprie ricerche, arrivando a “fotografare” come il cervello modifichi la propria struttura nell’ippocampo e nel cervelletto, permettendo di capire come avvenga la formazione dei ricordi a breve e a lungo termine.I risultati di questa ricerca permetteranno da un lato di conoscere meglio il funzionamento della memoria, dall’altro di scoprire le basi molecolari dei ricordi e come funziona la memorizzazione a lungo termine.
